Love is when you fail to see anything beyond your beloved’s beauty ...
For Power Couple Rishi Kapoor & Neetu Singh 'Real' Love Came After Years Of Togetherness
Their
chocolate love story played out from reel to real life and had India
enthralled in the '70s. After 37 years of marriage, superstar Rishi
Kapoor and Neetu Singh tell us about love, marriage and friendship.

Rarely
do you see a teenage love, especially one played out on celluloid,
withstand the pressures of time and unrelenting public glare. This one
did. Today, you see the same twinkle in the eyes of Rishi Kapoor and
Neetu Singh as you did those many years ago. It would be too easy to say
they were plain lucky. The truth is such things do not happen without
weathering storms together, or without a lot of give and take.

"I
don't believe in all this dying-for-love, Laila-Majnu stuff. That is
just hormonal attraction, which disappears soon. Real love comes later, a
love that forgives everything - as a mother with a child. For Rishi and
me, real love has come now after so many years of togetherness. I am
totally in love with my husband today - I look for him everywhere."
Rishi
says if he doesn't see Neetu once he comes home, he gets restless and
brings the house down till she emerges. Earlier, he was 'madly in love'
with her; today after 37 years of being together, "I feel blessed to
have her in my life."
Don't Miss
Back
when they first met, Neetu was barely 13 and Rishi 19. Their affair
blossomed later during the shooting of Kabhi Kabhie. "Bob (Rishi) used
to take me out for wine-shine and dinners and I loved all that, and, of
course, the idea of being with 'Rishi Kapoor'," confesses Neetu with a
reminiscent smile. "On his part, I guess he liked being with a girl who
was receptive and took all his nonsense."
She
still does that. In her 'Afterword' for Rishi's book Khullam Khulla, she
calls him a 'grouch', 'loud', 'suspicious', 'stiflingly possessive',
and 'difficult to live with', and yet says, "I cannot, would not, live
with any other...https://youtu.be/pzkYpx_-V1Y because I truly believe that I couldn't have asked for
a better man, or indeed a better life, than I've had with him... his
good qualities far outnumber his annoying habits."

Stereotypes
seem to have worked beautifully for this family. A husband who by his
own admission is "finicky, impatient and ill-tempered"; a wife who is
understanding, loving and shunned work at the peak of her career;
children who grew up fearing and respecting their father; a son who
carried forth his dad's tradition, and a daughter who has settled down.
This isn't a family in denial; they admit their trials, tribulations,
and face their demons together.
Neetu
states with touching candour in her 'Afterword', "An actor's wife needs
to have a large heart ... I'm sure Bob hasn't been squeaky clean, there
must have been a couple of trespasses... Such things happen in most
men's lives, and they did happen, but I chose not to give them any
importance. They were just fleeting distractions that came and went."
Rishi
says, "Neetu takes the major share of this pie. I never had to make
sacrifices. She took me as I was and has been my best friend and
support. Despite ups and downs, we have always been totally in love and
can't do without each other. She looks after me and the family with
loving care."
Diving deep into the stardom of the spice girl Neetu Singh
Frothy like champagne, fizzier than the tangiest soda, as natural as
sunshine streaming through orchards... Neetu Singh was all about joie
de vivre. From the classroom to the camera, hers was a career jumpstart.
But she was no precocious adolescent trying to pose as a heroine.
Rather, her onscreen effervescence was an extension of her off-screen
innocence. If heroes felt protective towards her, heroines wanted to
befriend her. So earnest and easygoing was her vibe. Her chemistry with
Rishi Kapoor is the stuff of campus dreams... years before Kuch Kuch
Hota Hai happened. Trademark flicks, silky straight tresses, kohl
eyes... the audience lapped up everything about her, even her plumpness.
Her impromptu jigs were in sync with her inner rhythm and enthused a
whole generation to the dance floor. Unrehearsed, unaffected,
unpretentious... Neetu Singh was the unobtrusive scene stealer. In a
decade that breezed through with 50 films and millions of fans... Neetu
Singh is one child actor who graduated to be the most loved child

The caring
Neetu was initially a confidante to Rishi. Supposedly, a heartbroken Rishi often took Neetuís help to pen woe-filled letters to his then
sweetheart on the set of the film.
But sometime later, when he went to
Paris for the shooting of Pramod Chakravortyís Barood (1976), he began
missing his girl Friday. Reportedly, he sent Neetu a telegram saying, Ye
Sikhni badi yaad aati hai
Legend goes that an elated Neetu,
unprepared for this flood of affection, ran to show the message to Pam
and Yash Chopra whose Kabhi Kabhie (1976) she was shooting
for in Kashmir.
Rishi, always known to be rëal bully, albeit an endearing one, had categorically kept the 8
pm pack-up deadline for his girlfriend.
Apparently, once Neetu was
shooting the song Dhoom mache dhoom with Yash Chopra for Kaala Patthar
(1979) late evening. From Yash Chopra to Bachchan everyone ensured that
Neetu left the set at the appointed hour. A frantic Neetu didnít even
stop to change and met her ëcontrol freakí boyfriend in costume!
A
ëcommitment phobicí Rishi, eventually proposed to Neetu in 1979, after
dating her for five years. They got married in a hi-profile celebration
in 1980. Apparently, part of the wedding mandap was used in Raj Kapoorís
Prem Rog (1982). The home-loving Neetu, who had been working since
childhood, was only too happy to exchange the pancake for the pans. She
retired at 21.
MARRIAGE AND MORE...
For a few years, Rishi and Neetu, stayed
with Raj Kapoor and Krishna in Chembur. Neetu recounts those years as
the most beautiful, where she not only grew close to her mother-in-law
but also imbibed her legendary art of hospitality. Few years after
daughter Riddhima and son Ranbir were born, the couple moved to their
bungalow Krishna at upscale Pali Hill in Bandra.
Reality and romance
have never been great friends. The Rishi-Neetu marriage reportedly went
through its fair share of turmoil in the í90s. But despite Rishiís
penchant for alcohol and his mercurial temper (not to mention his
Kapooresque overkill for food), the marriage sailed through. Neetu was
once quoted saying that Rishi was rëal good husband and father and hence
everything else lost its edge eventually.

For her fans it was a throwback treat, for her a validation of
her talent. One passion apart from family that has consumed Neetu, has
been her resolve to keep off weight. Close to 60, her agility has
inspired women to get off the couch and get onto the treadmill. She has
been a consummate mother to Riddhima, now married to Delhi-based
industrialist Bharat Sahni and enjoys playing grandmom to lilí Samara.
Her bond with son Ranbir Kapoor has been enduring. The two have
self-confessedly enjoyed an emotional symbiosis, through the highs and
lows of life. Today, as Ranbir is hailed as a true-blue actor and much
of it is credited to his eloquent Kapoor genes, it would be unfair to
ignore that no one could play ënaturalí as Neetu... So next time Ranbir
walks away with awards and applause... remember itís also the moment to
recognise his motherís hue in those bouquets.
Unforgettable Neetu
Singh has delivered many performces that one remembers her by. The
bubbly girl next door, expressive eyes and the long mane, all are things

young actor, the strong independent women, the wife, the mother and now a

exponentially grown ever since, she's aging like fine wine and is
definitely an actress we love to see more of.

Khullam Khulla (biography)by Rishi Kapoor.
Rishi's honesty hits you.
In the book you don't meet the star who created a stir with Bobby and
was at the "top of the game" for years - to use a phrase Rishi often
employs, you meet the star you know through Twitter.
Brash,
outspoken, and not one to mince words. The one who eats beef ("I am a
beef-eating Hindu") and is unapologetic about it. The one who
embarrasses a yesteryear star for denying an affair with his father. The
one who admits to meeting Dawood Ibrahim in Dubai in the late 1980s.
The one who has a rather uncomfortable relationship with his son. The
one who admits that he should have encouraged his wife Neetu to pursue
her career and not give up acting at 21, post-marriage. Ranbir Kapoor,
just like Rishi, has elaborated upon his relationship with his father
in the foreword to the book. He writes that he'd want to change this
dynamic when he has children - "I don't want my relationship with my
children to be as formal as the one I have with my father".
Wife,
Neetu, has detailed hers in the afterword - "he is loud, gregarious and
prone to wound with words". Both stark accounts, leaving little to the
imagination. ..............................................................................................................

When A Portuguese Woman Intrigued With An Emperor In The Mughal Empire Juliana Dias da Costa was a prominent figure in the Mughal courts during the reign of Bahadur Shah I.
